Great Grandmother's Watch
Found: 4/6/2010
Location: Family Homestead
Details: My G-G-G Grandfather went out to California in 1849 during the gold rush days. After a few years of success in the gold fields, he came back home to Indiana with enough money to build a nice brick home. Completed in 1860, this home has been in my family for 5 generations.
While metal detecting an area in back, I found this pocket watch. Heavily encrusted, I took it home and began to carefully clean it. I soon discovered that it was engraved with a name and date - "Jennie Roll 1906".
My G-Grandmother would have been 15 years old when she recieved this.
One Hundred And Five Years after she recieved it - I found it.

When I found this watch, I knew it was special.
This site has been solely inhabited by family members since it was built in 1860, so I knew it was a family piece. As you can see in the picture at left - this watch was heavily-encrusted with calcification. Using my "secret recipe" cleaning solution and working very, very slowly, I discovered just how special this watch really was. This watch is not in working order, nor can it be repaired. The side that you can see is amazing compared to the side you can't see. Fortunately, the important side was saved. |
Brooch
Found: 12/30/2010
Location: playground tot lot
Details: A rare December dig. After a month of 2-3 inches of snow and sub-30's temperatures, the weather broke. Some sunshone and 45 degrees...warm enough to get out the gear. The ground was too wet & muddy in some areas and still frozen in others, so I spent the day at various park playgrounds. This is a nice piece of costume jewelry. I wish is was "the real deal"!

Buffalo Nickel Watch Fob
1936 Buffalo Nickel Fob
Found: 11/17/2010
Location: Blackford County
Details: This is an encased, engraved 1936 Buffalo Nickel Watch Fob. It was found less than an inch deep and registered an 82 VDI.
This single item represents three "firsts" for me - my first encased coin, first Buffalo Nickel and first watch fob!

Silver Charm
Silver Volleyball
Found: 11/16/2010
Location: Local City Park (HCS)
Details: This registered as a 79 VDI on my White's Eagle SL II 90. It was only about an inch or so deep and looked as shiny in the hole as it does here. This little bangle is probably a bracelet charm or the business end of a necklace.

Lion Tietack
Gold Lion Tietack
Found: 11/11/2010
Location: City Park - Hartford City, IN (HCL)
Details: This came up as a 74 VDI and I nearly missed it. It was 1 1/2 inches deep and came out as shiny as you see it here.
I assume that it belonged to a member of The Lion's Club...or by someone really into lions.

Necklace Bling...
Sexi Back
Found: October 6, 2010
Location: City Park (MBP)
Details: This was found at a depth of 1 1/2 inches and registered at 82 VDI. Needless to say, when I unearthed it, I had quite a laugh. It appears to be the business end of a rather "stunning" necklace. This is a rather large piece - approximately 3 1/2 inches long. I searched the area for the chain that goes with this necklace, to no avail. So I guess I will have to break down and buy a chain if I'm gonna wear this.
